Duties of Position
The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides non-medical personal care and assistance with daily living activities to clients in their homes, under the direction and supervision of a qualified supervisor or healthcare professional. The CNA’s role is essential in supporting the client’s overall well-being, safety, and comfort, while helping them maintain as much independence as possible. All tasks must be performed in accordance with the established care plan and under the guidance of the supervisor.

Position Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support patients with mobility, including transferring, positioning, and walking, while ensuring safe practices.
- Assist patients with feeding, meal preparation, and ensuring the client receives adequate nutrition.
- Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documenting and reporting any changes to the supervising nurse or physician.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to patients, helping reduce stress or anxiety.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety by following infection control protocols, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a safe environment.
- Provide basic patient care in accordance with the care plan and under the guidance of an RN or LPN.
- Assist with patient repositioning to avoid bedsores and support proper body mechanics.
- Help patients with personal hygiene tasks, such as brushing teeth, shaving, and changing clothes.
- Document and report any significant changes in the patient’s condition or behavior.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient privacy, adhering to HIPAA and other regulations.
Job Conditions
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and assisting with mobility, including lifting patients weighing up to 200 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during the shift.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, and healthcare team members.
- Must be able to work in home health environments.
Equipment Operation
- Knowledge of use of mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) and safety equipment.
- Proper handling and usage of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and gowns.
Qualifications
- Be at least age 16 or older
- Valid CNA certification in the state of Ohio
- Must pass a background check as required by the employer
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Must provide proof of a recent TB (Tuberculosis) test with negative results or clearance from a healthcare provider.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on patient care.
- Compassionate, reliable, and patient-focused with the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with the healthcare team.
- Prior experience in healthcare settings is preferred but not required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in patient care.
