Duties of Position
The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) provides direct personal care and assistance with daily living activities to clients in their homes or healthcare facilities, under the supervision of a registered nurse or healthcare provider. The STNA will perform tasks that support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the client while following a personalized care plan. All tasks are performed under the guidance of a supervisor to ensure proper care and safety.

Position Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing, as specified in the care plan.
- Assist clients with mobility, transfers, and ambulation as necessary, while promoting safe practices.
- Help with meal planning and preparation, ensuring the client’s nutritional needs are met.
- Monitor and document the client’s physical and emotional well-being and report any changes to the supervising nurse or healthcare provider.
- Provide routine housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe environment for the client.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to the client, promoting mental and emotional health.
- Assist with medication reminders, following the care plan.
- Ensure the home environment is safe for the client, adhering to infection control standards and safety protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the ethics of care while establishing a trustful relationship with clients and their families.
- Report any changes in the client’s health or condition to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Job Conditions
- Ability to access homes that may not be wheelchair accessible.
- Must have sufficient hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity to provide care.
- May require bending, stooping, lifting, and moving clients weighing up to 200 pounds; ability to lift or carry up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with clients, family members, and healthcare staff, both verbally and in writing.
Equipment Operation
- Proper handling and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for infection control and safety.
Qualifications
- Be at least age 16 or older
- STNA certification of completion
- Must pass a background check as required by the employer.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of personal care, infection control, and medical terminology.
- Ability to maintain a compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor with clients.
- Must adhere to confidentiality standards and demonstrate ethical practices in all aspects of client care.
- Must be physically capable of performing all required duties and lifting assistance as needed.
